He had a banner career also with his first international rider, Anton Martin Bauer from Austria, who competed with the stallion as Remus Con. The most unusual quality in Sampson is his intelligence and gentle character. He is a horse who is not only incredibly talented and athletic for the top- jumping sport naturally but who is also very easy to ride and had a huge heart, always aiming to please. He has very adjustable and balanced gates, coupled with a light mouth and supple body. His respect for the fences made him a constant winner in the sport and he also had a desire to go very fast. In general, such careful and conscientious horses like Sampson often have nerves or spookiness, but Sampson is very unique in that he was always cool under pressure and fearless in and out of the show-ring.
